FLY ABOVE OTHER'S FEARS

Here is a peek into my new novel...just a little light reading to begin your week.

Sometimes people fear and persecute that which they do not understand. Remember who you are, spread your wings and FLY!!!

ANGEL'S LEGACY

CHAPTER ONE

“Dreams bring memories from others past
And help give lessons that will last"

The girl is nearing exhaustion and limps as her injured feet tread upon the sharp rocks on the path. Ghostly moonlight illuminates her way; a passage that seems familiar to her. Her heart beats faster as she rounds the corner, hoping for an escape route.

Despair floods her body as she almost runs right into a granite canyon wall. She is boxed in! The pale light deceived her and she took a wrong turn! In spite of the pain that wracked her body, she turns back the way she came, retracing her blood-spotted trail. The muscles in her legs scream in unison with the pain searing through her back.

The girl then takes a different path, hoping for an escape. As the path curves, a large space between the canyon walls is unveiled. A victorious shout escapes her lips as she runs rapidly towards the clearing. Rounding the bend from the other direction, the villagers appear a few dozen feet in front of her. Without pause she continues to run in their direction, crying out as her body begins to shift and change its shape.

In spite of their fear and confusion, the villagers raise their weapons. Crying out for her to die, they run towards her.

Even at a distance, her sensitive nostrils can detect the odor of their unwashed bodies, unkempt tunics, long, matted hair . . . and fear. But she never pauses in her race for freedom, finding herself running faster. The tightness in her shoulder blades increases each time a foot touches the ground. The pain in her upper back grows as she feels the heavy weight on her back. The pressure pushes her forward, pressing her head downwards. The light of the moon bathes her body, giving it an eerie glow.

As if one person, the villagers slow, then waver as fear begins to overtake them. An even greater infusion of terror fills them as they witness her transformation. The hump on her back begins to expand and move with a life of its own.

Screaming, the girl’s head comes up as huge wings burst from her shoulders. Her eyes focusing on the fear stuck villagers glow an unearthly white. With a swift stroke her mighty wings catch the updraft and she takes to the sky.

The villagers halt in bewilderment and horror. One of them screams out, “Look, she is a witch! She turned into a demon! That proves it!”

The young girl who is now an angel flies above them, just barely clearing the tops of their heads.

With a jolt, Mary awoke, jumbled in her sleeping furs and screamed out, “Let me go, LET ME GO!”

Charlie, jarred out of his own sleep by Mary’s screams folded his arms around her. “Mary, my love, it’s alright. I’m here. You are safe.”

The sound of her lover’s voice soothed her frantic nerves and she sat up, pushing her long, tangled hair out of her eyes. “Oh, Charlie, my darling, I had such a terrible dream.”
